News from the Library Media Center

The year is going great here in the library!  Now that we got our "extra Christmas break" (lol) over with, we are back in full swing.

Grades 3 - 6 are still keeping track of Accelerated Reading Points and the students are working hard to reach their goals.  In PreK - 1, we are in the midst of a rhyming unit.  The students are using pictures and they are doing a great job of matching the pictures that rhyme.  First and Second grades are creating Interactive Rhyming Notebooks and using poems.  They are using Nursery Rhymes for the next few weeks.  Toward the end of the year, we will return to the notebooks to explore different types of poems.

I'm looking forward to having the Fourth grade on February 10th for Technology Afternoon.  Permission slips will be going home on January 29th and need to be returned by Wednesday the 5th.  We will be working on coding and the students will create their own program on the chrome books.  This is from 1:00 to 5:00 pm and is in conjunction with Parent Teacher Conferences.  The kids will need to be picked up from the library.

Another event we will be attending is the Children's Literature Festival at Truman State University on April17th.  This festival is for the fifth grade students.  The students will get to meet some amazing authors.  They will also have the opportunity to purchase books by the featured authors.  This will be a morning event, as we will be dismissing at 12:45 for Prom.  We will leave first thing in the morning and return before lunch time.  More information on the event will be sent home soon.

As for the high school, the library has been busy with the students preparing for Homecoming.  They are working on their skits, float, and poster for Homecoming festivities.  The floats and skits will be presented at the Pep Assembly on Thursday the 29th.  Their posters will also be on display for the assembly and through out the game on Friday.  I always look forward to seeing a packed gymnasium for Homecoming.  The support from our community is amazing!

As you can see, the Green City R-1 Library Media Center is a pretty active place for the rest of the school year and I know the days will go by fast.  Summer break will be here before we know it!
